What Should I Name My Tesla? Top Tesla Names

We all know how cool it can be when you find the perfect name for your Tesla. It fits your personality and the car’s personality perfectly.

In this article, I compiled an extensive list of the most popular car names (in general) that would be best suited for your Tesla. You’ll know exactly how to choose a name for any Tesla model and I even provided a list for your future Tesla Cybertruck. Check it out!

How To Choose a Name for Your Tesla

Before I show you some of the most popular Tesla names, let’s look at how you can choose your own. Of course, there are no rules to how you should name your Tesla—but if you need inspiration, here are some things you can keep in mind.

  • What model is your car? If you have a Model S, X, or Y, you might want to choose a name that starts with that letter. If you have a Model 3, you might want a name with three in it, or maybe even three letters or a word like triple. The number 3 is also often replaced with an “E”.
  • What color is your car? Another idea for naming your Tesla is to incorporate the color of your car into the name, such as the “Black Bullet” or “Ruby Red.”
  • Does your car have any sentimental value? Maybe a family member gave you the car, and you want to name your Tesla after something that reminds you of them. Or, if someone passed down the car to you, maybe you want to keep the name the previous owner had or choose a nickname for your car based on that name.
  • Do you want a more masculine or feminine name for your car? This may help you narrow down the possibilities. It’s common to go for feminine names—in fact, 70% percent of men choose a feminine name for their cars. Some examples are Baby, Ruby, Betty, and Pearl.
  • Finally, consider any other cars you have and whether or not you want all the names to correspond. Maybe you have two Teslas, and you want their names to be similar, like John and Jack. Or, maybe you want to name the newer one a Junior, such as Sammy and Sammy Jr. If you have other non-Tesla cars, you can still choose names that go together, like the names of characters in your favorite TV show or movies.

How People Choose a Name for Their Car

As you probably already know, a lot goes into choosing a name for your car. Even though you can always change it, there is something special about having your car keep its name for its entire time with you.

Just over fifty percent of people have a name for their car. You don’t have to have a name for your car, but it can be fun to come up with one. A majority of the people who name their cars are men, and they tend to choose feminine names. But anyone can name a car, and you can choose any name you want—just feminine ones.

What-Should-I-Name-My-Tesla
79% of people chose the name for their car themselves, while 21% of people let their family or friends choose.

Of the people who chose their car names themselves, more than one-third of them did not have a reason for choosing their name—they just chose it. Other people gave their car a sentimental name, let someone else in their family choose the name, or went with a witty or funny name.

You could also go for a name that’s especially popular where you live. I can’t really explain why, but the fact is that different states have specific preferences for naming their cars. Here are some examples:

RegionMost popular names
NortheastSpark/Steve
SoutheastBig Blue/Big Red
WestBubu
SouthwestSally
MidwestBeast

Most popular names in different regions of the US.

You can truly choose to name your Tesla anything, whether it has meaning, it is a popular electric vehicle or car name, it has something to do with a characteristic of your car, or you just liked the name.

When Tesla Naming Started

Naming your Tesla has not always been an option. Tesla announced a software update in September 2014 that included the option to name your car.

The announcement came just in time for National Name Your Car Day, which is on October 2nd. Hopefully, by October 2nd, you have a name picked out. That way, you could have an official naming ceremony with your Tesla.

People have been naming their cars since they were invented, but you can make the naming official by adding the name in the Tesla app.

Make sure you choose a name you like for your Tesla. You will see it every time you open the Tesla app and on the screen in your Tesla.

If you input a few specific names, like characters from Monty Python or the number 42, you will see some special pop-ups to signify that you found a Tesla easter egg.

If you don’t know how to name your Tesla, you can follow the instructions in the app or user manual. If you’re still not sure how to do it or want an easy guide to follow, watch this Youtube video from nukem384:
